Luci Gorell Barnes
Paintings
"........redolent
of convents and black fairy tales it shares a sense of mystery and uncertainty.
The compulsion to take a universal, worshipped image and turn it into something
personal and individual is obviously still the driving force." The Venue.
Luci Gorell
Barnes' recent work revolves around the theme of mother hood and much of it
is inspired by religious art. The clear blues, peaceful compositions and simple
silhouetted shapes in her paintings look back to the Madonnas of 15th century
Italy. Yet the artist gives these archetypal images surprising twists which
invite us to look at them with fresh eyes.
Luci Gorell
Barnes is a Bristol based artist whose work has been extensively exhibited in
the south west during the nineties. She has led many visual arts residencies
and also worked in physical theatre in Holland, France, Spain and Nicaragua
as well as the UK.
